WTA Monterrey: Top seeded Stephens and Podoroska already out
At the WTA 250 tournament in Monterrey / Mexico, the two tournament favorites were eliminated at the start.

Sloane Stephens, the number 1 of the tournament, lost to Kristina Kucova 2: 6, 2: 6.
Stephens, US Open winner 2017, has been in a playful low for almost two years now, in 2020 she could only win 4 out of 15 matches, this year she remained without a win in all four appearances and is only 48th in the world .
Podoroska and Bouchard also out
But also Nadia Podoroska (WTA No. 47) seeded two is already out in Monterrey: She was defeated by Anna Kalinskaya 4: 6, 4: 6.
Saisai Zheng (WTA No. 52) is the highest listed player who is still in the competition: Zheng beat Varvara Gracheva 6: 3, 7: 5 at the beginning.
Also out: Genie Bouchard after a 5: 7, 6: 7 (3) against Lin Zhu. Bouchard had played strong at the tournament in Guadalajara last week and reached the final. With 116th place in the WTA ranking, it now has access to the expanded world elite again.
