At least the Canadian tennis fans can look forward to the comeback of Simona Halep : After her injury break, the Romanian will actually start in Montréal next week, for the first time since her surrender against Angelique Kerber in Rome. Otherwise, the field has become a little thinner than originally assumed.

Naomi Osaka, who was supposed to start in first place, gave the fans a friendly greeting, but also informed them that she would not be back in Canada until 2022 in Toronto at the earliest. Sofia Kenin, last year's Australian Open winner, is still struggling with an injury to her foot. The American will be missing as well as Iga Swiatek, the French Open champion from last autumn.

Sabalenka placed in position one

And so the field is led by Aryna Sabalenka , who can constructively process her disappointment at Olympia, where she surprisingly had to give up the sails against Donna Vekic. Belinda Bencic, on the other hand, comes to Montréal with her gold medal form, and Wimbledon finalist Karolina Pliskova is also expected.

Finally, special attention will be given to Bianca Andreescu, who won the last edition of the Canada 1000 in 2019. Like the US Open in New York City a few weeks later, Andreescu has not yet regained its old form after her long injury break.
