6: 4 and 4: 0. For Ekaterina Alexandrova, after just one hour of play, everything seemed to be ready for the greatest triumph of her career in the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Moscow. But opponent Anett Kotaveit secured six games in a row out of nowhere and with it the second set.

Anyone who had expected a break-in by the local hero was wrong. Alexandrova made the first break to 5: 4 in the third set, but then had to give up her serve. The 26-year-old should not recover from this setback, Kontaveit converted her first match point to a 4-6, 6-4 and 7-5 success.

After their victories in Cleveland and Ostrava, Kontaveit was able to look forward to their third title of the current season. In addition, thanks to the triumph in Moscow, the Estonian still has outsider chances of participating in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara.
