Bencic was just ahead of Polona Hercog and was already 3-0 down in the third set. After just under two hours of play time, the Swiss went with a 1: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4 as the winner of the court and meets in the quarterfinals Kirsten Flipkens, who could hold its own against Dayana Yastremska in three sets.

"She has a difficult style of play for me," explained Bencic after the match. "I do not really like it that much. And it was hard for me to get used to it. I am very happy with my fighting spirit. "Even though she, like most other players, was already very exhausted at the end of the year.

In the annual ranking, the Race to Shenzhen, Bencic is currently in tenth place. Since it is unlikely that Serena Williams will start in Shenzhen, Bencic must at least overtake Kiki Bertens. Elina Svitolina is not sure about the final yet.
