Naomi Osaka has been rare on the WTA Tour this year, the four-time major winner's last appearance dates from the French Open, where she was eliminated in the first round by Amanda Anisimova. Now Osaka has apparently found the desire to play tennis again - and called for the WTA Tour 500 tournament in San Jose, which will take place on August 1, 2022. A very special place for the Japanese: In 2014 she played her first tournament on the tour in San Jose. However, the event was still held at Stanford University at the time.

But the competition is also impressive: Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina will also be at the start, as will Ons Jabeur, who lost to the Russian in the final on Church Road. With Bianca Andreescu, another former US Open winner has been named, and Cori Gauff will also be found in the tournament grid.

Incidentally, in 2014 Osaka made it into the main draw by qualifying. And after defending a match point, he also beat Samantha Stosur. Osaka is currently ranked 38th in the WTA charts, her last tournament victory was at the Australian Open 2021, when she defeated Jennifer Brady in the final. The final in Miami stands out as the best result of the current season - but Osaka had no chance against Iga Swiatek there.
