WTA: No Sunshine Double - Ash Barty cancels for Indian Wells and Miami

The number one in the women's tennis world, Ash Barty , will not start at the two WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami. The Australian announced this on Friday night (CET) via social media.

World number one Ash Barty will not take part in the prestigious events in Indian Wells and Miami. As the 25-year-old Australian announced, she does not feel physically ready for the events after triumphing at the Australian Open.

"I don't think I'm at the level needed to win these tournaments," Barty said in a statement. "That's why I decided not to compete in either tournament." The Indian Wells tournament will take place from March 9th to 20th, with the Miami event following. In 2021, the Australian was able to celebrate winning the title in Miami. 1000 points that the newly crowned Australian Open winner is now out of the ranking.

Barty plans to return in April

At the end of January, Barty ensured the first home win since 1978 in Melbourne. She is also the current Wimbledon champion. She wants to be back on the field for Australia in the Billie Jean King Cup in April. "My goal is to represent my country at the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup in April.
