WTA Ostrava: Sabalenka wrestles Gauff, Pliskova eliminated
Coco Gauff's run of success at the WTA event in Ostrava has stopped. The young American lost to Aryna Sabalenka in three sets. Karolina Pliskova has meanwhile also retired.

At the start of the matchday in Ostrava, the Tunisian Ons Jabeur was victorious against Jelena Ostapenko in two contested sets. Jabeur is ready for her fifth WTA quarter-finals of the current season. In this she now meets Maria Sakkari, who surprisingly beat Elina Svitolina yesterday, Wednesday.
The second match of the day turned out to be extremely competitive. After Coco Gauff won the opening set 6: 1 against Aryna Sabalenka, the Belarusian defeated the American talent with 7: 5 and 7: 6 (2). Sabalenka will now face Sorribes Torro from Spain, who took Anett Kontaveit out of the tournament.
Pliskova surprisingly out
Elise Mertens is also in the quarter-finals, who showed no nakedness against Karolina Muchova and made it into the round of the last eight with 6: 4 and 6: 2. In this, the Belgian meets Victoria Azarenka. On the other hand, tournament favorite Karolina Pliskova, who lost in three contested sets against Veronika Kudermetova, was eliminated.
