Iga Swiatek and Petra Kvitova are also in the semi-finals of Ostrava as Maria Sakkari and Annett Kontaveit.

The top 4 of the WTA Tour 500 event in Ostrava, Czech Republic, almost reached the semifinals, but in the end Belinda Bencic, who was third in the quarter-finals, clearly failed in two sets of 4: 6 and 3: 6 against Estonian Annett Kontaveit. Things are currently going very well for the 25-year-old from Talinn, as she won the hard court event in Cleveland at the end of August. The Swiss, like Kontaveit, will be playing again next week at a 500 tournament in Chicago.

In the previous games, however, only the favorites prevailed: First, Maria Sakkari celebrated a 7: 5, -6: 3 victory over local hero Tereza Martincova. The fourth seeded Greek is in her sixth semifinals of the season - the previous five have all been lost, most recently at the US Open against the later title winner Emma Raducanu.

Local hero Kvitova in the semifinals

In East Moravia, Sakkari is now up against Polish Iga Swiatek, who in turn eliminated Kazakh Elena Rybakina 7: 6 (5), 6: 2. For the Western Slavs, it is the first semifinals since winning the tournament in Rome in the blissful month of May. In the head-to-head between Swiatek and Sakkari, the southern European leads 1-0.

The Czech Petra Kvitova is also in the round of the last four. The tenth in the world rankings defeated Jill Teichmann from Switzerland twice 6: 4 in her quarter-finals. The local hero, whose birthplace Bilovec is less than 30 kilometers from Ostrava, was able to return the favor for the defeat against Teichmann in Dubai at the beginning of the year. In direct duels it is 5-2 for the Czech between Kvitova and Kontaveit.
