WTA Palermo: Petra Martic and Anett Kontaveit in the semi-finals

While Anett Kontaveit and Petra Martic celebrated their favorite victories at the WTA event in Palermo yesterday on the quarter-finals, Fiona Ferro and Camila Giorgi surprisingly secured their place in the semifinals.

The first WTA event after the four-month break in the tour is slowly but surely coming to an end. The quarter-finals took place in Palermo yesterday, Friday, today the semifinals are on the program. As expected, this is the number one of the tournament, Petra Martic. The Croatian defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in her quarter-finals in two contested sets with 7: 6 (5) and 7: 6 (3).

Martic will meet Anett Kontaveit in the first semi-final, who was able to defeat the Italian surprise woman Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6: 1, 4: 6 and 6: 1. At just 19 years of age, however, Cocciaretto's appearances were a strong exclamation mark for the Italian tennis offspring. Her compatriot Camila Giorgi is the last local hero in the semi-finals after she surprisingly beat Dayana Yastremska with 4: 6, 7: 6 (5) and 6: 3.

However, there will be no purely Italian semi-final with Sara Errani, because the experienced Italian had to admit defeat to Fiona Ferro in her quarter-finals. The world rankings 53. completes the semi-final tableau. Today, Saturday, the semi-finals will start at 5 p.m., Anett Kontaveit and Petra Martic will open.
