It was the first time in the history of the Prague WTA tournament that the event was held on a hard court - so far, the "golden city" had always been played on sandy ground. This year's French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova doesn't seem to care at the moment on which surface she forces her opponents to defeat. In a purely Czech final, the 25-year-old clearly beat Tereza Martincova 6: 0, 6: 2. After just 1:05 hours of play, the native of Brno was able to look forward to her first WTA Tour success on hard court and her third tournament victory this year.

Perfect dress rehearsal for Tokyo

The number two of the tournament did not lose a set in the entire course of the event, only had problems building up the game in the round of 16 against Ysaline Bonaventure, but ultimately also defeated the Belgian 7: 6 (2), 6: 4 in two rounds. The home crowd was a huge motivating factor for Krejcikova: “It's easier to play and fight when there are spectators - Czech spectators. If the tournament hadn't been in the Czech Republic, I would certainly not have played a tournament this week because I felt really tired. But people came to see me play and I didn't want to disappoint them. "

Krejcikova will now continue at the Olympic Games in Tokyo - the Czech passed the dress rehearsal on hard court with flying colors. Martincova, on the other hand, has to wait for her first full success on the big ladies tour. At least the 26-year-old from Prague made it into the top 100 of the WTA rankings in 2021. Needless to say, the doubles competition with Marie Bouzkova and Lucie Hradecka also went to two players from the Czech Republic.
