Simona Halep is back on the Bel Floor of the WTA

The race for starting places in the 2022 WTA final got a little mixed up last week, which isn't too bad because it's still not clear where the end of the season should actually take place. As is well known, Guadalajara stepped in as a venue last year, with such great success that the Mexican city was allowed to host a WTA 1000 event this season. Also due to the fact that China is still not an option for the women's tour.

So Simona Halep will have to be patient, as will the other seven players who are currently in the desired places in the race. Halep is new to this group, with her success in Toronto the Romanian has moved up nine places and is fourth in the annual standings. Behind Jessica Pegula and ahead of Cori Gauff - both of whom Halep defeated on her way to the title in Canada.

Gauff new number one

Speaking of Cori Gauff: The 18-year-old is still waiting for her first big title as a singles player, but in doubles she has been at the top of the doubles world rankings since Monday. Gauff had won the pair skating competition alongside Pegula in Toronto.

In the regular as well as in the annual standings, Iga Swiatek is basically unassailable in the lead, even if the Pole recently weakened in Warsaw and Toronto. Simona Halep is back in the bel étage in sixth place, Toronto final loser Beatriz Haddad Maia has set a new career high with 16th place.
