Ashleigh Barty had to give up against Cori Gauff

So the pictures can be the same: After Simona Halep gave up on Wednesday with a clear lead against Angelique Kerber, two days later the world number one Ashleigh Barty had to give up prematurely due to injury. The Australian gave up in her quarter-final against Cori Gauff when the score was 6: 4 and 2: 1.

The reason for this wasn't clear at first, as Barty ran into a compression sleeve on his arm in the Grand Stand Arena and a large tape bandage on his foot. As it became known after the end of the match, the injury to the arm was the main reason for the decision of the 25-year-old.

The rainy conditions and the associated additional pollution may also have played a role. How serious the injury is and to what extent Barty's start at the French Open is at risk has not yet been determined.

Gauff, on the other hand, was able to look forward to making it into the first WTA 1000 semi-final in her career. In this, the 17-year-old meets Elina Svitolina or Iga Swiatek on Saturday.
