Ashleigh Barty won't be unsettled by a small false start these days. And so, although the Australian industry leader lost her first service game in the round of 16 of the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Rome against Veronika Kudermetova, she didn't let anything burn after that. Barty beat the Russian, who won the Charleston title this year, 6: 3 and 6: 3.
In the quarter-finals, however, the anticipated new edition of the finals in Stuttgart and Madrid will not take place: Aryna Sabalenka was somewhat surprisingly defeated by the 17-year-old American Cori Gauff with 5-7 and 2-6 in her round of 16 match.
The reigning French Open winner Iga Swiatek had big problems. The Pole won against Barbora Krejcikova with 3: 6, 7: 6 (5) and 7: 5. Swiatek will play either Garbine Mugurza or Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals.
