43 of the last 42 sets won, 28 individual wins in a row, fifth title win (four of them at WTA 1000 level) in a row: Iga Swiatek currently controls women's tennis almost at will and was unstoppable at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome . Not even from Ons Jabeur, who after all went into the final in Rome with eleven wins in a row.

Swiatek was unimpressed by this - and started like the fire brigade. The Pole quickly pulled away 3-0, which meant the world number one won the 15th game in a row in Rome finals, as the Pole had beaten Karolina Pliskova 6-0 and 6-0 in the final last year. However, Ons Jabeur was never in serious danger of getting under the wheels this Sunday.

Swiatek ice cold in the crucial moments

The Tunisian even had the chance to come back in the first half. At a score of 4:2, the seventh in the world rankings found a 0:30 on Swiatek's serve - the Pole held on to her debut. And a few moments later closed set one with another break 6: 2. 37 minutes had been played at this point.

Swiatek also had a similar dream start in the second heat. Although the number one in the world had to thwart a break chance at the start, the Pole did so with flying colors and then managed the break herself. A few moments later, Swiatek also had a quick 3-0 on the credit side in the second set. However, the decision in this match was to follow again when the score was 4:2, Jabeur had four chances to win the third game in a row, Swiatek showed nerves of steel in the decisive moments and finally held her serve.

The Pole couldn't let that go, after a little over an hour and 20 minutes Swiatek perfected the 6-2 and 6-2 win that was largely unchallenged. The Pole is going into the French Open, which starts on May 22nd, with a lot of self-confidence and as the big favorite. The tournament in which Swiatek was able to celebrate her first and only Grand Slam title win in 2020. However, the signs are now extremely good that the second could follow in a few weeks.
