WTA Rome: Iga Swiatek struggles to reach the quarterfinals
Iga Swiatek advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Rome with a hard-fought 6:3 and 6:4 against Donna Vekic.

It was hard work for Iga Swiatek, despite the clear result. Because Donna Vekic defended herself as best she could and from her point of view presented the defending champion with major problems at 3: 6 and 4: 6. Swiatek will now face Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals. She has already lost against the Kazakh at the Australian Open and in Indian Wells this year.
The game between Swiatek and Vekic had to be postponed to Tuesday, as did the last round of 16, which Paula Badosa and Karolina Muchova are currently playing.
In the lower half of the tableau, the quarter-finals are already certain: Beatriz Haddad Maia meets Anhelina Kalinina, Veronika Kudermetova has to deal with Quinwen Zheng.
