Elena Rybakina and Anhelina Kalinina had to wait a long time at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament before they were finally allowed to start their final. It was all the more disappointing for Kalinina that she had to give up after 65 minutes of play and the score was 6:4 and 1:0 for Rybakina because of an injury. It was the second match of the tournament in which reigning Wimbledon champion Rybakina benefited from her opponent's withdrawal during a match: In the quarter-finals, Iga Swiatek had to retire in the third set.

However, Rybakina's fifth tournament victory will remain in the annals, her second in a 1000 this year. The first was in Indian Wells, in Miami she reached the final. All in all, Elena Rybakina has an impressive record of 19:2 match wins at events in this category. Which brings her another win in the WTA charts: From Monday she will be in fourth place.

Rybakina and Kalinina were supposed to start at 7 p.m. local time, but the rain caused big problems for the organizers on Saturday as well. So the two women only went to the court shortly before 11 p.m.

The final in doubles has meanwhile been moved to the Pietrangeli. And brought a little surprise. Because Elise Mertens and Storm Hunter, placed fourth in Rome, defeated the tournament favorites Jessica Pegula and Cori Gauff 6: 4 and 6: 4.
