The only 18-year-old Coco Gauff won the highly explosive round of 16 duel at the WTA Tour 500 hard court tournament in San Jose against the former world number one from Japan Naomi Osaka in two sets. The current number eleven in the WTA rankings won 6: 4, 6: 4 and meets the Spaniard Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals, who had a hard fight over sets against the qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik on Wednesday.
Osaka fended off three break and thus match balls at 1: 5 and 3: 5 of the second set with their own service (there were a total of seven match balls fended off by the lady from Osaka), but that didn't change anything at the end of the game.
