Still the greatest weapon in women's tennis? Serena's serve

Roger Federer had honestly seemed insecure, back then on January 1, 2019. The Swiss was finally about to have a completely new experience: namely, having to return a serve from Serena Williams. The Hopman Cup, which has since been abolished, made it possible, Federer and Williams faced each other in mixed doubles, much to the mutual delight and the delight of tennis fans.

Federer did very well as a return player, but the serve remains one of the main weapons of the 23-time major winner from the USA. Not absolutely (Serena only played 20 games in 2020), but in the ratio of aces per match. Williams had the best score with 8.9 direct service points, followed by the amazing Kristyna Pliskova with 8.06 and US Open winner Naomi Osaka with 7.83.

When it comes to the absolute numbers, the frequent player Elena Rybakina has the nose in front: The Kazakh played a total of 39 games on the court, serving 193 aces. Serena follows with 178 ahead of Aryna Sabalenka, who beat 165 aces in 37 matches.

If you look at the success rate in your own service games, then Julia Grabher is actually in the lead. The Austrian won all of her service games in her only game at WTA level in the past tennis year: in Linz Grabher had to give up against Sorana Cirstea when the score was 2: 3 in the first set, and until then she remained flawless as a server. However, if you take players who have shown themselves significantly more often, Osaka is reasonably well ahead of Serena Williams (82.5%) and Ashleigh Barty (81.6%) with a percentage of 85.7% won service games.
