Simona Halep - number one among fans

No matter where Simona Halep goes in the course of her tennis year: the Romanian never stands with her back to the wall in terms of support from the fans. There is always a small group, but usually even a whole block that stands behind the ruling Wimbledon winner. No one should be surprised that Halep has now asserted itself en suite for the third time in voting on the most popular player on the tour.

Kvitova in third place

On the other hand, the player in second place already: Iga Swiatek, 18 years old and certainly a woman with the best sporting prospects, has left global crowd-pullers like Naomi Osaka (fourth), Serena Williams or Bianca Andreescu behind. Perhaps because the Polish fans have traditionally been very active behind their players: Agnieszka Radwanska emerged as the winner of the last seven votes before Halep took over in 2017.

Petra Kvitova took the place in the popularity contest. The Czech woman received the award as the fairest player on the tour a few weeks ago. However, the colleagues had voted on that. Possibly a more reliable indicator than a fan vote.
