WTA St. Petersburg: Daria Kasatkina and Margarita Gasparyan contest the final
Daria Kasatkina and Margarita Gasparyan will play the final at the WTA 500 tournament in St. Petersburg. Both prevailed in the semifinals despite some difficulties.

Young versus old - this was the starting position before the two semi-finals of the WTA event in St. Petersburg. First, the 26-year-old Margarita Gasparyan met her compatriot Vera Zvonareva, who was ten years her senior, then the 23-year-old Daria Kasatkina and the 35-year-old Svetlana Kuznetsova faced each other.
In the end, the younger athlete should prevail both times. Gasparyan beat Zvonareva 6: 3 and 7: 6 (9), but had to fight especially in the tie-break of the second section and even fend off four set balls from her opponent.

Kasatkina had even more problems against fourth-placed Kuznetsova, especially at the beginning, and clearly lost the first round with 1: 6. After that, the Russian got better and better in the game and left the world number 39. only two games left. In the end it was 1: 6, 6: 0 and 6: 2 from Kasatkina's point of view.
In the final there is a clash between Gasparyan and Kasatkina. It will be the first duel between the two Russians at WTA level.
