WTA Strasbourg: Bianca Andreescu reaches quarter-finals - and withdraws

Bianca Andreescu's long history of injuries, it just doesn't want to end . This story is also experiencing another sad chapter in Strasbourg, where the young Canadian finally made her comeback after several rejections since quitting the final of the Miami Open a few weeks ago.

The Canadian had just bought her ticket for the quarter-finals in France on Tuesday, leaving the Belgian Maryna Zanewska with little chance, when the 20-year-old announced that she would not be able to play the upcoming quarter-finals. A precaution for the French Open, as Andreescu explained.

Andreescu calms: "Nothing serious"

"I'm super happy with the win today, but I'll skip my next match because I felt a small tear in my stomach and I don't want to overuse it for Roland Garros," said the Canadian, who despite several cancellations in the last Months at number seven on the WTA charts.

With regard to her injury, Andreescu tried to reassure himself that it was not a serious injury, assured the US Open winner from 2019: "I don't want to take any risks. But nothing serious. It's a little uneasiness." Andresscu would have felt the pain especially on his own serve in set two.

The cancellation of the WTA 250 event hurts the 20-year-olds a lot, as Andreescu had pursued the goal of gaining match practice for the upcoming French Open. A goal that was nevertheless achieved, as the Canaiderin explained: "I did everything exactly as I wanted. So I'm really happy with these two matches before the French Open."
