While most of the players in Paris are preparing for the French Open, which starts on Sunday, a WTA tournament is taking place in Strasbourg at the same time. The top seeded Kiki Bertens had to say goodbye in the second round after an injury-related task against Jelena Ostapenko, but the Latvian success run did not last too long.

The French Open winner of 2017 had to admit defeat in the quarterfinals Nao Hibino in two tiebreaker sets. The Japanese now meets Elena Rybakina, who in turn defeated Shuai Zhang 6: 3 and 6: 2.

Sabalenka faces a big task

In contrast to Bertens, Elina Svitolina, seeded in second position, is still in the tournament. The world number five beat Jil Teichman in the quarter-finals 6: 4 and 6: 3 and seems to live up to their favorite role in Strasbourg.

In the semifinals, however, Aryna Sabalenka could now be a major challenge for the Ukrainian. To do this, the Belarusian would have to turn a 2: 6 and 2: 1 deficit against Katerina Siniakova - the continuation of the game was postponed to Friday due to persistent rain.
