While the ATP, with an event calendar that has already been composed up to the ATP finals in mid-November, gives players and tournament officials a certain level of planning security, the WTA only progresses every quarter. At least the tournament schedule for September and October was published today. The date and location of the 2021 WTA Finals, however, remained open.
The autumn events in Portoroz (Slovenia), Chicago (USA, Illinois), Tenerife (Spain) and Courmayeur (Italy) are brand new. A comeback of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells is also planned, analogous to the men's tournament. The event in the California desert, described by some as the fifth major event, fell victim to the corona virus in 2020.
Here is the updated WTA tour calendar after the US Open:
- September 13: Luxembourg, Portoroz (both WTA 250)
- September 20: Ostrava (WTA 500), Seoul (WTA 250)
- September 27: Chicago (WTA 500)
- October 4th: Indian Wells (WTA 1000)
- October 18: Moscow (WTA 500), Tenerife (WTA 250)
- October 25: Courmayeur (WTA 250)
