When Jule Niemeier congratulated Iga Swiatek after the hearty exchange of blows in the Louis Armstrong Stadium last fall, the immaculate observer could have thought: Well, well, routine has prevailed again, the supposedly older Swiatek becomes Niemeier give me a few warm words to take with me.

In truth, the Polish world number one is currently 21 years old, Jule Niemeier is already 23. But because Swiatek, who has to play against Sorana Cirstea in the quarter-finals of Indian Wells today, has already had a remarkable career, you sometimes forget that she is still so young. Which makes the following statistics more understandable, but no less surprising: Because on the WTA tour, Swiatek has not yet suffered defeat against players born after her.

No "danger" for Swiatek in Indian Wells

In this regard, she is on the safe side today and, if she wins, also for the rest of the tournament. Cirstea is (young) 32 years old, the potential semi-final opponents are Elena Rybakina (23) or Karolina Muchova (26).

And there is no danger from the lower half of the tableau from the younger generation compared to Swiatek: Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari play for the final place.

Which descendants could Swiatek be most likely to face? In the medium term, the two Czechs Linda Fruhvirtova and Linda Noskova should be mentioned. And of course Cori Gauff. But the American in particular has not seen any land at all against Iga Swiatek.
