It's not that the Czech Republic isn't blessed with exceptional female tennis professionals: Petra Kvitova has won Wimbledon twice, Karolina Pliskova topped the WTA charts, and Barbora Krejcikova took the title at Roland Garros this year. The Czech teams have won the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) six times since 2011, so things are going well.

And with Linda and Brenda Fruhvirtova, the next great hopes are ante portas. Linda, 16 years old, has already caused a sensation this year, reaching the quarter-finals at the WTA Tour 250 event in Charleston. Otherwise, the older of the two Fruhvirtovas played mainly at the ITF level for adults - and is currently at position 279 on the WTA charts. In the world ranking of junior women, Fruhvirtova is in second place.

Mladenovic loses in the final in Seoul

Brenda, only 14 years old, has won 40 of her last 45 matches among the juniors and is fourth among the juniors. And at the recently concluded WTA Tour 125 event in Seoul, Brenda was allowed to run for the first time with a wildcard in the women: In round one, she defeated the Korean Moon Jung. And has been included in the WTA rankings for the first time since yesterday. As only the second girl next to the Brazilian Helena Bueno, who was born in 2007.

Linda Fruhvirtova was also at the start in Seoul and made it to the quarter-finals. The tournament was won by the Chinese Zhu Lin, who defeated Kristina Mladenovic 6: 4 and 6: 0 in the final. It was the first WTA tournament that was held in East Asia since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
