The 19-year-old beat Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-3 in the final.

Gauff quickly took a 3-0 lead, then had to accept the rebreak, but got the set safely. In the second round, Sakkari came into play better, leading 3:2 and 30:0 on his own serve, but then made too many mistakes. Gauff, on the other hand, finished the match confidently and used her second match ball to win.

After her tournament victories in Linz (2019), Parma (2021) and Auckland (2023), it is the biggest for the American - in singles.

Sakkari proud and disappointed at the same time

Sakkari, on the other hand, has to wait for her second tournament victory. "You still have so much ahead of you. And you've already achieved so much. You're a great role model, so nice behind the scenes too," Sakkari praised her opponent. Sakkari had taken the top seed out of the tournament in the semifinals with Jessica Pegula. "It was an incredible week," she said - but also explained her disappointment with tears.

Gauff and a team with a view

"I can only return everything that she said about me," praised Gauff back. "When I came on the tour, she was one of the nicest to me."

For Gauff it is also a great success in the new coaching constellation. She has recently been working with Spaniard Pere Riba, and this week legend Brad Gilbert was also part of the training team . A station wagon with a future? Quite possible. "The first tournament as a full team," said Gauff ambiguously. "And of course a big thank you goes to my parents, because of them I play tennis, I get my personality from them."

Siegemund WINS in doubles

Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva had already won the doubles competition on Saturday. The two won 6:4, 6:4 against Alexa Guarachi/Monica Nuculescu.
