On February 23, 2020 Angelique Kerber was one of the 20 best players in the world for the last time, exactly one and a half years later the German returned to the top 20 after reaching the semi-finals in Wimbledon and Cincinnati. The three-time Grand Slam winner moved up to 17th place and is now as high as she was last in October 2019.
The world rankings are still headed by Ashleigh Barty, who underlined her supremacy in women's tennis with her triumph in Cincinnati. The new runner-up is now Aryna Sabalenka, who overtook Naomi Osaka and thus also set a new personal record. Barty is missing 3,175 points.
Krejcikova is improving
In addition to Sabalenka and Osaka, French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova (9th) and Garbine Muguruza (10th) swapped places in the top ten. Otherwise there were no changes in the first ten positions.
As in the regular WTA ranking, Krejcikova also made up a place in the Race to Shenzhen. She is now in second position behind Barty and in front of Sabalenka. From the current perspective, Karolina Pliskova, Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka, Garbine Muguruzua and Ons Jabeur should also take part in the end-of-year finals for the eight best players.
