Aryna Sabalenka made a leap forward with her win in Madrid

Good performances are also rewarded in tennis: Madrid winner Aryna Sabalenka is celebrating her debut in the top five of the world rankings this week. After her triumph in the Spanish capital, Belarus made up three places and is now fourth. Only Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep are listed in front of her.

Otherwise, not too much happened in the top regions of the WTA charts, only Kiki Bertens lost seven positions due to the less than successful title defense (second round out) and is now in 17th place. However, things went better for the Madrid semi-finalists Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Paula Badosa, who in turn made up eleven and twenty places respectively. Saint Malo winner Viktorija Golubic improved by twelve positions to 72nd place.

Kerber in the race in 55th place

Angelique Kerber, however, could not improve. At least the best German player didn't lose a place, she is still in 26th place. Two places ahead of her, Ons Jabeur was able to look forward to a new career high. In addition to Sabalenka, Jabeur and Badosa, this also applies to Jessica Pegula (31st), Leylah Fernandez (70th), Clara Tauson (91st) and Tereza Martincova (92nd).

In the Race to Shenzhen, Barty is still in the lead over Osaka. Behind them is Sabalenka, who overtook both Garbine Muguruza and Jennifer Brady. The rest of the trio, which from the current perspective should play at the end of the year, consists of Elise Mertens, Veronika Kudermetova and Karolina Muchova. Kerber ranks 55th in this ranking.
