Simona Halep was not necessarily haunted by luck this year: The Romanian could not win a single tournament in 2021 and also sustained a calf injury in Rome. For this reason, the 29-year-old has not played a tournament since the event in the Italian capital and is now outside the top ten for the first time since January 27, 2014.

At least there is for the current world rankings-13. but also positive news, Halep will return to the tour at this week's WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal. The field in Canada is led by Aryna Sabalenka, who still ranks third behind Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka.

Petkovic makes a big leap forward

The now world number eight, Bianca Andreescu, lost three positions and was overtaken by Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Iga Swiatek. French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova, who is one of the ten best individual players in the world for the first time in her career, can look forward to it. From a German point of view, Cluj Champion Andrea Petkovic improved by 23 places to 68th place, Angelique Kerber is unchanged in 21st place.

In contrast to the world rankings, not much happened in the Race to Shenzhen. Barty continues to lead this ranking, followed by Krejcikova and Sabalenka. In addition, from the current perspective, Swiatek, Pliskova, Osaka, Garbine Muguruzua and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova should also take part in the year-end finals of the eight best players.
