Nothing has changed at the top of the WTA World Rankings with the recent update. Just outside, however, two women have positioned themselves in wait.

Beatriz Haddad Maia knocks on the top ten

Iga Swiatek is number one in the world. You will probably be able to say this sentence in one way or another for a few more weeks without much checking. Even if the young Pole - superior leader in the WTA ranking - has a number of points to defend in the coming weeks. If the three-time Grand Slam winner does not deliver, the number one position could also shake.

But the Pole is a long way from that at the moment: Swiatek is currently around 4,000 points ahead of the first pursuer Ayrna Sabalenka, while Ons Jabeur, who is currently injured, is in third place. Belinda Bencic, who won the title in Abu Dhabi this week, is still number ninth in the world - even if sixth place is now well within reach for the in-form Swiss.

Kontaveit crashes

Overall, with the exception of new scores, there have been no changes within the top ten of the WTA charts: only behind them are there significant advances to report: Beatriz Haddad Maia, for example, has made up two places and is now knocking on the top ten. The same applies to Liudmila Samsonova, who is only just behind the Brazilian in 15th place.

It was already a big crash for Anett Kontaveit this week, who lost nine places and can only be found in 27th place - in the coming days the Estonian is expected to fall back outside the top 50. Linz winner Anastasia Potapova is 13th Places well and is just outside the top 30 women in the tennis world.

From a German perspective, Jule Niemeier is still number one in 69th place, followed by Tatjana Maria (72nd) and Tamara Korpatsch (83rd) in the top 100. From an Austrian point of view, Julia Grabher is the only player within the top 100 women after the unsuccessful home event in Linz, the Vorarlberger is in 90th place.
