Nice success for Stefanos Tsitsipas in sunny Abu Dhabi: Like all other tennis professionals, the Greek, who is preparing for the coming season, won the final at the traditional exhibition tournament Mubadala World Tennis Championships against the Russian Andrey Rublev 6: 2, 4 :6, 6:2 and can look forward to a winner's check in the amount of 250,000 US dollars.
It's Tsitsipas' first title at the prestigious event - in 2019 he lost in the final to five-time champion Rafael Nadal. Rublev, on the other hand, missed last year's title defense when he defeated the British Andy Murray in straight sets.
Third place goes to Casper Ruud
Only in the second set did the eighth in the world rankings from Moscow have something to oppose against Helen's strong baseline game and got the break that decided the set just at 5: 4 from his point of view. In rounds one and three, the 24-year-old from Athens managed to take the first two service games away from his opponent - three of them over the debut.
The Norwegian Casper Ruud had already won the match for third place against the current world number one Carlos Alcaraz in two sets 6:1, 6:4. The comeback of the Spaniard at the show fight tournament in the United Arab Emirates went down the drain, as the reigning US Open Champion had already lost his semi-final duel against Rublev 2:6, 1:6.
What should not be concealed - a women's match was also played this weekend: Ons Jabeur and Emma Raducanu met on Friday. The second in the world rankings from Tunisia prevailed in a close game with 5: 7, 6: 3 and 10: 8 in the match tiebreak.
