Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem will not play in Rome

German is spoken in New York City: Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem will contest this year's final of the US Open and will reach for their first Grand Slam title on Sunday from 10:00 p.m. CET.

But in view of the physically and mentally challenging weeks in the Big Apple, the two finalists also have to make a small sacrifice: Zverev and Thiem will - unlike originally planned - at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome, which will take place on 14. September will find its beginning, will not start. Daniil Medvedev also decided not to appear in the Italian capital.

Thiem had already lost to Fernando Verdasco in the second round of the clay court classic last year, Zverev had to admit defeat to Matteo Berrettini in the same round.

It is still unclear whether the two will accept a wildcard for the ATP 500 tournament taking place a week earlier in Hamburg before the French Open, which begins on September 27, or whether they will prepare directly in Paris for the third major event of the year .
