The 23-time Grand Slam winner expressed her sympathy for the Duchess of Sussex after the much-noticed interview by Talk Queen Oprah Winfrey with former actress Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry. Your "selfless girlfriend" is a role model with "empathy and compassion," wrote Williams on social media.

You have experienced sexism and racism firsthand through institutions and the media and know from this experience that women and people of color should be "broken and demonized", it said in her statement.

Williams: "The consequences of systematic repression are enormous"

"Malicious, insubstantial gossip and tabloid journalism" must be countered, wrote the 39-year-old American, and the consequences of "systematic repression" for mental health are enormous. She will continue to fight for "my daughter, Meghan's daughter and the daughters of all of you" to live in a society that is characterized by respect. Prince Harry revealed in the interview that the couple's second child will be a girl.

Duchess Meghan sees herself as a victim of "character assassination" in her relationship with the British royal family. For example, an incident with her sister-in-law Kate, wife of the British heir to the throne, Prince William, was completely misrepresented and everyone in the royal family knew this. For her this was "the beginning of a true character assassination" and a "turning point" in her relationship with the royal family. In addition, before the birth of their now almost two-year-old son Archie, there was whispered behind the palace walls about how dark-skinned the child would be.
