Mirra Andreeva was able to give herself the present she had been hoping for on her birthday. The 17-year-old Russian won against Jasmine Paolini after an up-and-down match. In the first set, the famous momentum kept changing back and forth between the two players, but Andreeva came out on top in the tiebreak.

In the second set, everything looked like it would be decided quickly. After Mirra Andreeva had gone 4-0 up, Jasmine Paolini fought back but was unable to complete the comeback. Andreeva narrowly held on to her lead and moved into the round of the last eight players.

This means that Andreeva has made it to the quarterfinals at the 100 level for the first time. The winner of the match between Aryna Sabalenka and Danielle Collins will be waiting there. The match will not be played until late in the evening.
