Alexander Bublik: "If there was no money, I would stop immediately"

Alexander Bublikspoke to L'Equipe about his relationship with tennis. The Kazakh frankly admitted that he was only doing his job because of the money.

Alexander Bublik is obviously not a big friend of his own job. "To be honest, I see no positive thing in being a professional tennis player," said the Kazakh in an interview with L'Equipe on the sidelines of the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille.

The only drive for him are the high prize money in tennis. "I only play because of the money. If there was no money, I would stop immediately," Bublik told the French sports newspaper.

Bublik is flying high

A few weeks ago, the world ranking 55. Listen up with similar statements at the ATP 250 event in Montpellier. "I hate tennis with all my heart. The most watery of all sports. I hate every day I have to play it. I hate fighting, I don't like it," Bublik scolded during a match.

Despite his more than just conditional love for his job, Bublik has been soaring for quite some time. The Kazakh made his breakthrough in 2019 - he reached two finals and also made his top 50 debut. Things are going well for Bublik in Marseille too. After victories over Marton Fucsovics and Benoit Paire, the 22-year-old is already in the quarter-finals.
