Alexander Zverev got off lightly again: Because the ATP imposed another fine of 25,000 US dollars on the 2021 Olympic champion for his behavior at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Acapulco, but Zverev will not be suspended. However, should he commit another code violation in the next twelve months, an eight-week compulsory break will come into effect.
Zverev had messed with the chair referee alongside Marcelo Melo during a doubles match, and after the verbal argument he also hit the umpire's chair with his bat. He was excluded from Acapulco for this, the prize money was withheld, and there were no points either. This also means that Zverev can start in the next two ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
Last weekend, the native of Hamburg was instrumental in Germany reaching the final round of the Davis Cup. Zverev won his two singles games against Brazil in Rio de Janeiro.
