Alexander Zverev had little interest in critical questions during the Ultimate Tennis Showdown

Alexander Zverev did not benefit from the COVID 19 interruption in the ATP tour. Neither athletic - as a young player, the goals after the semi-finals at the Australian Open were befittingly big - nor personal. After the escapades surrounding the Adriatic tour, the seventh in the world rankings was heavily criticized, but to alleviate this, had it arranged to quarantine for two weeks.

As is well known, nothing came of it, the German was filmed a few days later during clubbing with the German fashion luminary Philipp Plein. A video that made waves and brought Zverev to the center of criticism. Nick Kyrgios among other things had quite drastic words ready for the 23-year-old. A few weeks later, this should have led to the big meeting in the course of the bett1Aces in Berlin. A highly anticipated match-up, which fell victim to the cancellation of the two.

Since then it has been quiet about Zverev, only the news of a trial period with David Ferrer as coach - and a report of success and thus extension of it - penetrated to the public, statement or even sorry, the German remained guilty. And it should stay that way, because as the FAZ reported, the journalists had been explicitly instructed to ask Zverev about the same during the Ultimate Tennis Showdown.

Zverev rules out cancellation for US Open

Rules that nobody really wanted to abide by, whereupon the US Open quickly became the subject of the survey. "It's a bit crazy to play the US Open now," said Zverev. "I would prefer the US Open not to take place and we start in Europe." Now was not the time to go to America fly, explained Zverev. Nevertheless, the German could rule out a rejection, because what should he do, after all, it was about ranking points.

Ranking points that Nick Kyrgios will officially forego. The Australian and admonisher of the past few weeks announced in a video message that he would not be attending the US Open. Zverev, on the other hand, will - if the tournament also takes place - serve in New York City - and have a new trainer at his side there. Working with David Ferrer works really well: "We get on extremely well, we have similar personalities," said Zverev.

Which a few moments later caused another little excitement. When asked about the short-term cancellation of the tournament in Berlin, Germany's number one obviously had enough. The 23-year-old got up and said goodbye with a smile and a "See you tomorrow".
