Andy Murray missed the title in Biella

Due to a corona infection, Andy Murray was banned from participating in the Australian Open and so the three-time Grand Slam winner decided to open his season at the Challenger level. In Biella, Italy, the Scot, who was in first place, played his way into the final relatively safe, but the 33-year-old had no chance in this.

Illya Marchenko, against whom Murray had a 2-0 record to date, only needed a little more than 85 minutes to achieve his first success against the former world number one. In the end it was 6: 2 and 6: 4 from the Ukrainian’s point of view, who had defeated the number two of the tournament, Federico Gaio, among other things.

Gaio will also be the player against whom Murray will play his first match next week in the Challenger event "Biella 2". Then the Brit could meet the top seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Marchenko will open against Giulio Zeppieri.
