Up to 9.2 million viewers were there on Saturday evening in Great Britain to watch the US Open victory of their new heroine - strong! The British Tennis Association had already come up with something special for the Emma fans for the semi-finals, which ran at night in this country - a sick leave according to the motto: Sorry, I had something important to do, but it lifts my mood for the future. /

After Andy Murray, Great Britain has a Grand Slam champ again - and Murray himself admitted to being a big fan of Raducanu. Of course, you knew how good it was, according to the former world number one . "But she hardly played the 18 months before, because of school and Corona. But at Wimbledon everyone could already get an idea of how good she could be."

He had already trained a bit with Raducanu himself, but spent even more time near her training and saw what she was playing - "and she's obviously very, very good," said Murray. The British Tennis Association recently shared the pair's training video. He hopes that Raducanu's win in New York will give the British association "a big boost" and that more children will be brought to tennis.

Virginia Wade warns of the consequences of quick fame

Viginia Wade, US Open winner in 1968, also believes in a great future for the 18-year-olds. "Emma will have to understand how good she really is. But you have to work constantly to maintain that. She needs that self-image. If you believe that you are better than others, you beat her too."

But Wade also gave a few words of caution: The sudden fame was "probably the most difficult thing these days. She needs very good support here."
