Andy Roddick knows how to win a major

Andy Roddick knows about Grand Slam finals: The American has lost four against Roger Federer during his career. 2005, 2006 and 2009 in Wimbledon (Federer won the last final with 16:14 in the fifth set), 2006 also at the US Open. It was there that Roddick won his only major title in 2003, with a success against Juan Carlos Ferrero.

After that, however, the now 37-year-old was still successful on three occasions at the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, but he was denied another triumph in the Grand Slam.
Alexander Zverev has won just as many in his young career. What the German still lacks is a victory at one of the four largest events in the tennis circus. And this success will come, Andy Roddick is convinced. It's easy to forget how young Zverev (23 years old) is, Roddick said in a question time for the Tennis Channel. The native of Hamburg would definitely have the necessary facilities, as would also have been shown by Zverev's first entry into a semi-final of a Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne earlier this year.

Thiem already with three Grand Slam finals

The first candidate for changing the guard of the big three is Dominic Thiem. The Austrian was the logical successor to Rafael Nadal, especially in Roland Garros, said Roddick. There Thiem has been in the final for the past two years - whether there will be a third attempt in 2020 is still a question in the light of the Corona crisis. The French Open was moved to September early, but that does not mean that the tournament will also be held. The current third in the world rankings at the recent Australian Open has shown that Thiem is also one of the majors' favorites on hard court.

After the long break, Andy Roddick sees the usual suspects in front again: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The latter had proven with his success at the Australian Open after a half-year break that he needed very little match practice to get going again and play tennis successfully. Nobody knows this better than Roddick, who won only three against Federer's 24 games.
