What would the tennis world be without passionate statisticians? We'll say it very honestly: It would be a lot sadder. And so we should be grateful for the gentlemen who are better at the multiplication tables, percentage calculation and Co. than Graf Zahl personally. /

Enrico Maria Riva is one of them. The good man has more than 10,000 followers on Twitter, and rightly so. Because in the past few days he has made it clear to us what we have suspected for a long time, but have not dared to speak out: When it comes to lawn tennis, Angelique Kerber is no fool!

Because Angie was the most successful player on grass between 2011 and 2020! There are 59 victories here in the statistics, followed by Petra Kvitova (51) and Serena Williams (48). In 8th place: Sabine Lisicki, finalist 2013 and semi-finalist 2011, with 39 matches won. Kerber's greatest successes: of course, the Wimbledon victory in 2018, after the final in 2016.

Serena Williams: Best in percentage terms

Mooooment, do you say Serena was "worse" than Angie, despite three Wimbledon titles in that period (2012, 2015, 2016), two more finals (2018, 2019) and Olympic gold (2012)? Yes and no.

In terms of percentage, Serena was by far the best: She won 88.89 percent of her matches on grass, significantly more than Kvitova (78.46) and Kerber (76.62). Incidentally, Sabine Lisicki follows in fourth position with 75 percent. Kerber's advantage in terms of victories: In addition to Wimbledon, she also played regularly in Eastbourne (2 finals, 2012 and 2014) and Birmingham (1 tournament win, 2015), and in 2018 and 2019 on Mallorca - Serena, however, always did without another tournament. ..

Oh yes, by the way, Angie is ahead in one more balance: She played the most matches between 2011 and 2020: 592 pieces. She won 395, third place in the relevant balance sheet. Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki are leading here with 404 wins each.
