In times like these, traveling to Australia is no fun: Barbara Schett had to make this experience for the second time within a few months. The Tyrolean tennis goddess hosted the Australian Open for Eurosport from London, after which it went back to the center of her life Down Under. And again in the strict quarantine that Schett had already gone through in autumn 2020.

So it's no wonder that Australians in particular have great foresight when planning their trips. So also the world number one Ashleigh Barty. She had saved herself a return to the WTA tour after the Corona break in 2020, and only came back to the tennis streak at the preparatory tournaments in Melbourne at the beginning of this season. But now Barty has started her world tour trying to defend his title in Miami.

Barty in Miami versus Svitolina

This venture looks good so far, Barty survived the tough test against Aryna Sabalenka on Tuesday with great fighting spirit. With Elina Svitolina there is a player waiting in the semifinals who has not met much in the recent past, Ashleigh Barty is also the clear favorite in this game.

A few days ago, Barty explained her further season planning. And that looks like wanderlust included. Her coach, Craig Tyzzer, and she expect not to return home at least until after the US Open. There is no window in the current season for the mandatory two-week quarantine.

It was not easy for the 24-year-old to make her decision: “Without a doubt, this will be something new for me. That I understand and prepare myself for the fact that we will be away from home for such a long time. "
