At a hearing in Canberra Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Kyrgios attorney Michael Kukulies-Smith requested an adjournment to allow time for a mental health inquest. This was reported by media including public broadcaster ABC and the Sydney Morning Herald .

Kyrgios, who was not required to appear for the largely administrative hearing, is in Tokyo to compete in the Japan Open.

Kyrgios had asserted on Monday that he had been dealing with the case "for months" and was dealing with it "day after day". "There is only so much I can control and I take every step and take care of it off the pitch," Kyrgios told reporters in Tokyo.

During the Wimbledon tournament in the summer it became known that Kyrgios was allegedly injured after an incident in December 2021. At Wimbledon, on the advice of his lawyers, Kyrgios did not comment on the allegations.
