Alex de Minaur won the title in Acapulco

Strong exclamation mark from Alex de Minaur: The Australian - at the start of the season with a win over Rafael Nadal - showed a very strong performance at the Acapulco ATP 500 event and won the title with a hard-fought three-set win over Tommy Paul in the early hours of Sunday morning. For de Minaur it is the first title at ATP 500 level.

The start of the match was anything but perfect for the man from Australia: First it was the American Tommy Paul who was supposed to put his stamp on the final. The world number 23. secured the early break to make it 3:1 and played away in the first set. De Minaur couldn't get a foot in the door and had to give up section one 3:6 fairly quickly.

A hard-fought second round followed with chances for both sides: De Minaur should finally show better nerves and send the endgame into a deciding set with a 6:4. In this, Tommy Paul's strength visibly dwindled: the American could no longer resist defeat. In the end, the Australian won 3:6, 6:4 and 6:1. Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler had previously sensationally won the title in doubles.
