After his 7: 6 (2) and 6: 4 against Thanasi Kokkinakis in the last round of 16 of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Adelaide, Jannik Sinner was asked whether he had taught his coach Darren Cahill anything. Well, since Cahill already knows how to eat spaghetti properly, there isn't much to learn. So the atmosphere is good in the Sinner team. And the lecture against Thanasi Kokkinakis was for a long time too.
Only at the end of the first sentence did Sinner falter briefly. And that after the South Tyrolean had taken the lead with a break to make it 5:3. Kokkinakis immediately made the rebreak, but was unable to take two chances for another break at 5:5. In the tie-break, Sinner pulled away, and in the second round it was enough to take Kokkinakis' serve to make it 2-1.
Djokovic vs Shapovalov
In the quarter-finals, Jannik Sinner has to deal with Sebastian Korda, who had surprisingly few problems with Roberto Bautista Agut at 6: 4 and 6: 4. In the second match of the round of eight in the lower half of the tableau, Yoshihito Nishioka and Alexei Popyrin meet.
Tournament favorite Novak Djokovic has to compete with Denis Shapovalov after beating Quentin Halys 7: 6 (3) and 7: 6 (5) on Friday. For Djokovic it was the 31st win in a row in Australia. And Daniil Medvedev meets Karen Khachanov in an all-Russian duel.
