A little thrill doesn't hurt a Novak Djokovic either. As long as there is a win in the end and thus a place in the quarter-finals of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Adelaide. Djokovic won against Quentin Halys from France 7: 6 (3) and 7: 6 (5) and now meets Denis Shapovalov.
The Canadian, who still had his problems with Rinji Hijikata at the start, won 6: 4 and 6: 3 against Roman Safiullin on Thursday. The second quarter-final in the top half will be a purely Russian affair: Daniil Medvedev has to play against Karen Khachanov after his comfortable win over Miomir Kecmanovic.
After his victory, Djokovic was full of praise for Halys: He acted like a top ten player. Ultimately, that didn't stop the Serbian grandmaster from winning his 31st match in a row in Australia.
Korda is waiting for Sinner or Kokkinakis
Sebastian Koda is also in the last eight after beating Roberto Bautista Agut 6:4 and 6:4. Korda is waiting for the winner of the game between Jannik Sinner and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
The last quarter-finals already took place on Wednesday: Yoshihito Nishioka has to deal with local hero Alexei Popyrin.
