Alexander Zverev wants to test his clay court shape before his actual home tournament, the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo. Zverev accepted a Wilcard from the organizers of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Marbella and will play his first matches on ashes next week. Then it goes back to the principality, where Zverev has had his main residence for several years.

The tennis year 2021 has been going pretty well for the German number one so far: Alexander Zverev was the only player who could really challenge Novak Djokovic in his run for the title at the Australian Open, even if the quarter-finals ultimately went to the Serbs in four sets. Then Zverev won the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Acapulco, with the final victory against Stefanos Tsitsipa s.In Miami there was the first real setback of the season, Zverev lost to the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori after a strong start in three sets.

The other starts of Zverev are occupied by Monte Carlo, Munich, Madrid and Rome, the clay court season is to be crowned at the French Open in Paris. Due to the nationwide lockdown in France, however, a big question mark hovers over the second Grand Slam tournament of the year.
