Andy Murray is very busy throughout September thanks to the wildcards for the ATP tournaments in Metz and San Diego.

Andy Murray is currently outside of the top 100 in the tennis world with position 116 in the world rankings, but has been up again since his first round appearance at the US Open against Stefanos Tsitsipas, where the Briton only had to admit defeat in five sets to find the expanded favorites lists of the experts. Despite losing the last 16 at this week's ATP Challenger in Rennes (France) against the Russian Roman Safiullin, the two-time Wimbledon champion wants to continue playing as many matches as possible.

Strong field of participants in San Diego

Further wildcards for upcoming ATP World Tour tournaments in September ensure that this is also possible for the now 34-year-old from Glasgow. While the Scot can look forward to a “charter” at the 250cc event in Metz, France next week, a week later he will also save himself qualifying at the hard court tournament in San Diego. In California, Kei Nishikori and Brandon Nakashima are also included by wildcard.

For an event in the 250 category, the line-up in the south of the USA is an absolute hit anyway, which is of course due to the subsequent ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. After all, 13 players from the top 30 serve in San Diego - so Andy Murray is not the only one who is keen on collecting match practice. At the moment Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Dennis Shapovalov are at the top of the seeding list.
