ATP Astana: Jurij Rodionov makes it into the main draw
The Lower Austrian Jurij Rodionov is in the main competition of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Astana after a two-set win over the Australian Rubin Statham .

In 2020, Yurij Rodionov was over in the first qualifying round at the ATP World Tour 250 event in Astana (then still called Nur-Sultan). This year the 24-year-old made it into the main competition of the hard court event in the Kazakh capital.
To a clear 6:1, 6:2 success over the former world number 65. Evgeny Donskoy from Russia followed up with a 7:6 (7), 6:4 win against Australian alternate Rubin Statham on Wednesday. The draw of the qualifiers to their respective first round opponents is still pending. Possible opponents for the Lower Austrian would be: Roberto Carballes Baena, Bernabe Zapata Miralles (both Spain), Corentin Moutet or Gregoire Barrere (both France).
A total of three Austrian professionals are in the individual main field in Astana: Dominic Thiem faces the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas in his comeback after severe gastritis, Sebastian Ofner opens against the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics. Sam Weissborn is competing in doubles with his Monegasque standard partner Romain Arneodo. At the start, the two will meet the French team Sadio Doumbia / Fabien Reboul.
