Oscar Otte missed the second round of the ATP tournament in Astana / Kazakhstan. The man from Cologne got off to a good start against ninth-seeded Marin Cilic (Croatia), but ultimately had to admit defeat to the semi-finalists of this year's French Open 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-2. Cilic was still in the Tel Aviv final on Sunday, which he lost to Novak Djokovic in two sets.
After the first-round defeats at the US Open and at the ATP tournament in Metz, Otte suffered the next early exit. The 29-year-old lost his three individual games when Germany won the Davis Cup intermediate round in Hamburg. After the Wimbledon tournament, Otte underwent knee surgery.
In the first match on Wednesday in Astana, Andrey Rublev won 6:3 and 6:2 against Zhizhen Zhang. Rublev is already in the quarterfinals. And could now meet the man who defeated Carlos Alcaraz in round one: David Goffin. But the Belgian has to face Adrian Mannarino from France first.
